It is September and that means the box office has gone into its semi-annual hibernation mode . We do get two new wide release films this week including another unnecessary horror sequel and DeNiro in an an action-comedy that has no buzz. So yeah… happy filmgoing.~Chris

James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) is one of the top directors bringing new and original horror to movie goers and I am always interested in what he is working on. The original Insidious was a fantastic supernatural horror film that actually brought the scares, but it was also a film that didn’t scream out a need for a sequel. Regardless of a need, Insidious 2 exists and it looks like it at least feels like the original so here is to hoping it turns out good. You can expect a review here sometime next week.

Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfieffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Luc Besson, and Martin Scorsese all had a hand in The Family, an action comedy about a mafia boss that testifies against the mob and has to move to France. The cast is great, the fish out of water premise is a tried and true one but for some reason this film just isn’t grabbing me and based on the advertisements I’ve been seeing (or more accurately, haven’t been seeing) it won’t be grabbing many others either.  [/one_half_last]
