I must admit, it’s been rather hard getting myself to be productive lately. Between Grand Theft Auto V, Sons of Anarchy, and the Battlefield 4 beta, I am just overwhelmed with things I want to spend gross amounts of time playing. I know it’s only going to get worse, but GTA5 is so good and addicting, I just don’t see much else gripping me by the thumbs and demanding my attention like Rockstar’s latest and greatest. Either way, there are new games coming out this week, and here’s what we got..~Don P.
Heavy Rain was one of my favorite Playstaion 3 exclusive titles, so at this point, whatever Quantic Dreams releases has at least a little bit of my attention. Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) goes a step beyond that by adding in a supernatural theme, further grabbing my interest. I watched the reveal trailer live when I was at the Sony press conference in 2012, and Beyond looked stunning for a Playstation 3 title. Quantic Dreams did such a stellar job at telling an interesting story in Heavy Rain, I have high hopes for this effort.
[one_half]Game of the Year editions are all the rage with two coming out this week. But the big one, and probably the one with the most content, is Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition (PS3, PC, and Xbox 360). It has all of the content from the season pass, which includes four campaign add-ons and a few additional classes. Of course, you also get the main game and a few other goodies like vault keys and such. Such a value, and one that I highly recommend.[/one_half]
[one_half_last]Capcom Essentials (PS3 & Xbox 360), on the other hand, packs five games in one package. Included is Resident Evil 6, Dead Rising 2, Super Street Fighter IV, Mega Man 10, and Devil May Cry 4, but I don’t think I would pay $60 for any combination of these. There’s my pessimistic entry this week. [/one_half_last]
[one_half]Disgaea is one of the funniest franchises in gaming, specifically RPGs, so if you want laughs mixed with your strategy RPG, Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness (PS3) is sure to satisfy. It features the cast from the original Disgaea, but in a new story. Fionne, one of my favorite characters in the series, is back, so I’m on board for another few dozen hours with Disgaea D2.[/one_half]
[one_half_last]Just Dance 2014 (PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360) is this years dancing effort, and I only recognize a few tracks on the setlist. That said, it’s kind of a neat venture and it’s nice to see dancing games still kicking about. The plastic peripheral era is behind us, and it seems dancing games took their place. Yeah, as you can tell, I have very little to say constructively about Just Dance 2014, but fear being fired from Chris Scott if I don’t mention it. He loves to dance.
