Mobile gaming is becoming more and more commonplace but sorting through that junk is often pretty difficult. Writing full reviews for mobile games is often tedious and boring but we still want to be able to help you guys out when it comes to figuring out what is worth your time, so sorting through the crud is what Wandering Wednesdays is all about. Each week we’ll look through the app store and try out a few of the latest releases, letting you know if something is worthwhile or not. This week I shot some zombies, played cards with pirates, lost my mind and Don played something on his icky Android device.  ~Chris

I’ve played a lot of horror games featuring zombies, they are something of a crutch for designers because they are mindless in terms of AI. That said, even if they are overdone and kind of the same each time out, killing them never really gets old. Gunner Z is the latest of these zombie killers and while it is still a game where you point, shoot, and kill zombies, it feels a bit fresh. Maybe it is the fantastic black and white design that occasionally has tinges of other color in it. Or maybe, shooting zombies is as fun as it always was.

Many games don’t work well on touch devices and developers are still struggling with ways to design around its lack of buttons. The adventure genre has little problem with these issues as it fits perfectly on the system due to its simple point and click nature, as such the genre has seen a bit of a resurgence on touch devices and I couldn’t be happier because now we get games like Lost Echo. Lost Echo is a beautiful looking and sounding adventure game. The designers really bought into the style they were going for and when coupled with the sound it just works. Sadly the writing leaves a bit to be desired but the core narrative is interesting enough that I plan on working my way through some of the stilted dialog.

When I think of Stardock, I don’t think of mobile. Instead I think big grand strategy titles like Galactic Civilizations of Sins of a Solar Empire but I guess we’ll have to think mobile now that they’ve released Dead Man’s Draw, a simple and fun pirate themed card game. While it is really easy to play, it actually takes some time to explain so if you like card games, just go get this one. It is a blast.  [/one_half]

After my very heavy addiction to Puzzle and Dragons finally wore off, I tried a few similar games to fill the gap left behind. Everything was unsuccessful, until I came across a press release for a game called Marvel Puzzlequest. I immediately downloaded it to my HTC phone and started playing. Being unfamiliar with Puzzelquest itself, I really wasn’t sure what I was in for, but the price of admission was free and I am a pretty big fan of anything Marvel. Matching tiles consumes those colors, which can then be spent on power-ups, which your team has a variety of. Each character has two to three skills, but they need to be unlocked by fusing like-cards into one. I haven’t spent a dime, because the game feeds me enough cards and in-game cash to keep me playing casually, but I have been playing daily and I highly recommend it. I could go into more detail, but for the sake of brevity, just go try the game and give it an hour or two of your time to let it click.
