Mobile gaming is becoming more and more commonplace but sorting through that junk is often pretty difficult. Writing full reviews for mobile games is often tedious and boring but we still want to be able to help you guys out when it comes to figuring out what is worth your time, so sorting through the crud is what Wandering Wednesdays is all about. Each week we’ll look through the app store and try out a few of the latest releases, letting you know if something is worthwhile or not. This week I mostly killed zombies with plants and well, can you really blame me.  ~Chris

Plants vs. Zombies was one of my first great experiences on a touch device and all summer long, I’ve been eagerly awaiting Plants vs. Zombies 2. And now that it is here, I don’t want to stop playing it. Popcap has added in a ton of cool new features, like plant food that gives a specific plant a super powered attack and a hand of God based special attack where the player can actively destroy zombies using swipes and pinches. It is also entirely free-to-play, what more could any PvZ fan want?

Tower defense games are a dime a dozen on the app store but Pirate Legends might be the first pirate themed one I’ve ever played. Focusing on naval approaches, players have to set up their defenses to protect their pirate ship and on the surface it seems much like any other tower defense game. But the special attacks, like a Kraken that can eat up a chunk of an incoming force, are what makes the game a ton of fun.   [/one_half_last]

Collectible card games are pretty popular on mobile devices. Hell, my current game addiction, Puzzle and Dragons, is very much like one of these CCG’s. One of the newer ones that caught my eye though was based on a popular IP that I grew up with, G.I. Joe. G.I. Joe Battlegrounds has dozens of cards to collect, but they pose as figures in the game. You’ll set out on missions and battle the opposing forces with your team, all in a very generic way. The hook is for older gamers like myself, who remember the series in its prime. I had more enjoyment reading the bios of the characters than playing the game, but the game was solid enough to drag me along for a few hours of sporadic play. ~Don [/one_half]

Knight Storm gives me the opportunity to live out my fantasy of being a knight, competing in tournaments and managing my own castle. While the gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, mostly focusing on simple touch and pointing, the visuals are top notch giving everything a highly polished look to it. The ability to joust other players is a great touch for connected players but even offline the game gives plenty of content to cover. With so many other games, something like this is easy to pass by but for genre fans, this is one to check out.
