Oh it’s been awhile. A long while, too, might I add. Two full months have passed now with sporadic releases, rarely with more than one semi-interesting game to note. But 2014 is here, and we are already a month deep into it. Games are coming out a little more frequently, and February marks the first big releases of the year. Well, outside of the great Europa Universalis IV expansion that came out last month. Anywho, here is what is coming out the first week of February, ~Don P.

Have you longed for Square-Enix to make a game that reminded you of the Playstation-era of JRPG’s? Bravely Default (3DS), from the trailer anyways, looks like that game. Four crystals are in dangers, and you have to save them. Sound familiar? What about a job system. Does that sound enticing? It looks (I use that word with some reservations) like a new, beautiful take on a classic design that made Square-Enix a trusted name. I haven’t been interested in a 3DS game in quite awhile, but this is the first to catch my eye.

LEGO games are kind of a big deal in my house. I enjoyed the LEGO Batman 2 game, and loved the LEGO Marvel game. But that was not only because TT Games designed charming games, but because I was very familiar with the brands. The LEGO Movie Video Game (3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One) is an odd duck for me. This time, it’s an original story and universe. Oh, my kids are already on board, but I’ll have to wait and see before I fall in line.

[one_third]releases0204_fableanniversaryThe original Xbox game, Fable, is getting an HD coat of paint with Fable Anniversary (Xbox 360). It’s been nine and a half years since the original Fable launched on the original Xbox, and if you missed one of the great exclusives from a few generations back, now is a prime time to check it out.[/one_third]

[one_third]releases0204_littleracersRemember the old Micro Machines game on NES? That’s what I think of when I hear the term “top-down racing”. Little Racers STREET (PC) is a top-down racing game with a load of events and cars. There’s a little less whimsy than Micro Machines, but Little Racers STREET still looks like a blast from the past. Much like most of the rest of the games coming out this week. [/one_third]

[one_third_last]releases0204_dustforceDustforce (Vita) is being noted here because it’s a Vita game. I enjoy my Vita, and always look forward to new games on it. However, Dustforce is an action platformer, with a person sweeping dust like a ninja. Not my cup of tea, but it’s bound to be somebody’s.[/one_third_last]
