Last week Insidious Chapter 2 sparked the box office with its $40 million take. This week’s wide releases, a child abduction thriller and a dance film, won’t match that success. That said Prisoners does seem like the best movie to hit screens in a few weeks and could net Hugh Jackman another first place finish atop the money pile. ~Chris

When we last saw Hugh Jackman he was slicing up baddies as the Wolverine. Prisoners looks to be far less fantastical and a whole lot darker, dealing with the abduction of two little girls and exactly how far the parents will go to get their children back. Early reviews have been quite strong and I’ll be checking this one out personally this weekend. Look for our review next week.

The Step Up franchise surprisingly captured what essence of great song and dance films from yesteryear, while bringing them in to today’s dance reality. The franchise hit a road block last year with its latest release and many seemed to think the dance genre was headed back to obscurity. Battle of the Year hopes that isn’t the case though, presenting what seems to be a formulaic competition film where the underdogs surprise everyone and win. I’m not surprised. [/one_half_last]
