I love to keep lists and stats. They aren’t useful for much but I like them. And they do help me to give some detailed info behind how I spent my media consumption time this year. So, let’s get into it.

103 Games Finished – That’s 103 games I rolled credits on or did everything possible in and thus could call it finsihed. First game finished was Super Mario Bros. (as per usual) and my last game finished was Diablo IV on 30 December.

59 Hours – 59 hours was the topping out point for time I put into one particular game. That game was Theatrhythm Final Bar Line which I played on Switch when it fist came out and I’ve since also bought it on Playstation and am playing it there now too. Gran Turismo 5, Disney Speedstorm, FIFA 23, and Rare Replay were my next four most played games.

44 New 2023 Games Played – Hi-Fi Rush was the first new game I played in 2023 and Dreamworks All-Star Kart Racing was the last 2023 release I played. I finished both. Theatrhythm, Disney Speedstorm, Diablo IV, MLB The Show 23, and Forza Motorsport were my five most played 2023 games.

3 New 2023 Games I Rated 5 out of 5 – In a great year for games, I thought Alan Wake II, Sea of Stars, and Super Mario Wonder were top tier. This may suprise some people as I’ve voted slightly differently in different game of the year polls.

61% of Game Time Was on Series X – No surprise here as I nurse my achivement streak (to 850 days as of today). Second place was PC, closely followed by PS5, and then Switch, and PS3.

185 Films Watched – It took me a week to kick off watching movies in 2023 and I did it by rewatching the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I closed out 2023 by watching the new Alexander Payne film, The Holdovers.

64 New 2023 Films Watched – M3GAN kicked off 2023 films of me and as mentioned above, The Holdovers closed it out.

6 New 2023 Films I Rated 5 out of 5 – Much like games, I thought it was a great year for films. Six of the 64 new films I saw I rated as top tier. They were Oppenheimer, Air, TheCreator, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, and Knock at the Cabin. Don’t be surprised when all six of these show up on my favorite films of 2023 list at a later date.

41 Films Watched in Theaters – The 41 films accounted for 22% of all my movie watching, which was more than any individual streaming service. The top streaming services for my movie watching were Tubi, Shudder, Disney+, Screambox, and Netflix.

3 Shows Finished – I didn’t keep records of the shows I finished this year but I didn’t finish much anyway. I left Ahsoka hanging. I left Blue Eyed Samuari hanging. Hell I even left Abbott Elementary hanging (and I was like an episode away from finishing it). I did finish Next Level Chef Season 2, Twisted Metal Season 2, and Series 13 of Doctor Who (which I really liked).

11 Books Read – Its a noticeably lower number from previous years as I hit a spell between April and July where I wasn’t reading anything. My Goodreads though states I read 32 because it counts comic books that I read on my Kindle. Anyway, three of the books I read this year were released in 2023, they are: Star Wars – Jedi: Battle Scars by Sam Maggs, Video Game of the Year: A Year-by-Year Guide to the Best, Boldest, and Most Bizarre Games From Every Year Since 1977 by Jordan Minor, and The Woman in Me by Britney Spears.

15 Concerts Attended – We hit 20 in 2022 but this year we also attended a pair of festivals (Sad Summer Festival and When We Were Young) so, we saw more acts than 2022. I’m not sure I’m made for festivals anymore. Also, I like concerts that have seats. Also, the biggest concert I’ve ever attended was mixed in there as well, as we saw Taylor Swift when she played three nights in Philly. That concert was easily the loudest croud I’ve ever been with and they literally shook the Linc at points.

217 New 2023 Songs Liked – Like every year, I listen to a lot of new music over the course of the year. This year I added 217 new additions to my library. I also came up with a playlist of my 50 “best/favorite” songs of the year. I use quotes there because I limited myself to one song per primary artist, so I actually have other favorites but this let me feature more acts.

Best of 2023 Playlist

And that’s it for last year. Here’s to having a good time with media again in 2024.

What did you guys get wrapped for 2023?

Taylor Swift
