With the holidays over, the rush of big name titles being released every week slowed to a trickle, and a new year upon us, now seems like the perfect time to look over our gaming collection and clean up some of that backlog. Personally, I have a lot of titles I want to sit down and play but these are the three I am most intent on putting time into early in 2016.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is a game that I place quite highly on my list of top games of the year. However, at the point we revealed those lists, I wasn’t finished with the latest Assassin’s Creed. I’m still not, despite having put in many more hours into the London adventure. Like all mainline Assassin’s Creed titles, Syndicate is a big game and it deserves a big time commitment. There is no better time than now for me to spend time liberating the streets of London and becoming the big bad gang leader I never knew I wanted to be.

Far Cry 4

Far Cry Primal might be the first really big release of 2016 and it seems like something I’d really like. But, I’ve had Far Cry 4 sitting here waiting for my attention since I gave it an hour of my time back in late 2014. The Far Cry games don’t have an overarching narrative that ties them together but I have this weird mental thing about needing to play things in sequence. So, before I can take a bite out of Primal, I need to give 4 a fair shake. Being as I really liked Far Cry 3, I suspect, based on my hour of playtime, that I’ll also really like Far Cry 4. I just hope I don’t Far Cry myself out before Primal.

Super Mario Maker

Back in August the gamepad on my Wii U flat out stopped working and I’ve been without a Wii U for the last four months. However, at the start of the new year and with a little leftover holiday money, I dropped some cash on getting another one. And when I bought that new Wii U, I also bought the game I was most disappointed I missed out on last year, Super Mario Maker. I’ve put in a little bit of time on the game so far and it is everything I hoped for, and maybe even a bit more. What I want to do more than anything in games at the start of 2016 is deep dive into learning the ins and outs of Mario Maker so I can create some devious levels that will make my friends scream. And I also want to play all of my friends levels and scream streams of profanity at my screen as I die over and over trying to beat them.

Those are my top three backlog titles I want to tackle early this year, what are some of yours?
