Last week was a great one, wasn’t it? Diablo III on consoles, Rome II on PC, Rayman and Mickey everywhere.  This week continues that string of greatness, that is if you play things on Sony platforms. In fact, “Week of Sony” would have been my headline this week if I had to have one. The PS3 sees Puppeteer and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix, on top of that, this week we get a great FPS experience on the Vita with Killzone Mercenary. In short it’s a good week to be playing a Sony device.~Don P.

One of Sony’s big, first-party IP’s comes out this week, Killzone: Mercenary (Vita). I had the pleasure of playing the game pre-release for review and was blown away by the presentation of the game. The online is even a lot of fun. Really, the only real gripe I have about Mercenary is the gimmicky implementation of certain touch controls. That aside, for people who own the Vita and have been craving a console-like experience without feeling like what you are playing is a port, Killzone is a great title. You can read my full review here.

[one_half]releases10_dragonfantasybook2Vita owners really are starting to get lucky. Dragon Fantasy Book II (PS3 & Vita) looks like a good ole fashion JRPG from the 16-bit era. The first game got quite a bit of praise by fans of the era. The sequel is loaded with bounty jobs to keep you busy outside of the main quest, and looks to rekindle memories of Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, two of my favorite RPGs. I played just a little bit last night (Sunday) to get a sampling of it, and it really does a great job at tugging on those nostaligic strings. Look for the full review here at Critically Sane sometime in the future.[/one_half]

[one_half_last]releases10_paranormalLast weeks Outlast looked scary, sure. But this weeks spooky game actually interests me a little more. Paranormal (PC) deals with hauntings, and each time you sit down to play you are given a new experience. It’s coming to Steam via Early Access and promises new locations and constant updates. Being as I am terrified of ghosts, and not so much monsters, I have a feeling I will be changing my pants a few times and will possibly become an insomniac.[/one_half_last]

[one_third]releases10_arma3To be honest with you, I had never heard of the Arma series until that Day Z mod came out for Arma II. Yes, I am one of those people. That said, Arma III (PC) does look like my kind of game. A large-scope, first-person shooter where realism is the keystone of the game. [/one_third]

[one_third]releases10_legendofdungeonThis year is the year of the Rogue-likes, as they seems to be coming out at a very consistent basis. Even if they are not pure Rogue-likes, there are still a ton of games that have the same randomized appeal. The latest coming out this week is Legend of Dungeon (PC), which very clearly advertises “hats, hats, hats!”. I’m guessing you can wear hats in the game, which also blends randomized dungeon RPG goodness with beat-em ups. [/one_third]

[one_third_last]releases10_nhl14It’s worth noting that NHL 14 (PS3 & Xbox 360) is coming out this week, too. Mainly because it’s pretty much the only Xbox 360 game coming out this week. But that’s fine, that’s another week of Diablo III, right?[/one_third_last]
