With this generation of consoles quickly coming to an end, what are some of the games that you would like to go back and play before jumping off the old ship?

I play a lot of games, more than a lot of other people. But even with all the games I play, there are still a few that I have unfortunately missed out on. With a little over a month left before the release of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, my time is dwindling on being able to catch up but here are games I am most interested in catching up on.

Assassin’s Creed III

Each of the last four years I entered the animus but last year’s journey for me was on the Vita with Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. When I finished playing Aveline’s storyline, i was burnt out and had no desire to sit down and play Assassin’s Creed III. As Assassin’s Creed IV approaches, I feel that desire to once again jump into the animus but being a fan of the overarching storyline that involves Desmond, I feel I can’t skip III and just move on to playing pirates. Thus Assassin’s Creed III is one I definitely want to make time to play through. I do fear I will find myself in the same burnt out situation as I did last year though, so expect to see Assassin’s Creed IV in this same column next year.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

When I finished Grand Theft Auto IV, I had very mixed feelings about it. Rockstar’s attention to detail was second to none at the time but I felt the mission structure was antiquated and the narrative was all over the place. That said, while I didn’t love Niko’s storyline or the piss poor checkpointing, Episodes from Liberty City supposedly fixed all that. With the promise of a tighter narrative and smarter checkpointing, I always felt that I should return to the streets of Liberty City. With V out, it seems crazy to want to return there but I feel I need to play the two episodes to get the whole scope of Rockstar’s evolution of GTA, the biggest franchise in gaming right now.

Fallout: New Vegas

I have been a fan of the Fallout series since the beginning and I must admit, I was a bit skeptical of what Bethesda would do to the franchise. Turns out, Fallout 3 was pretty good. I loved every minute of my time in the Washington D.C. wasteland. Needless to say, I was pretty excited for Fallout: New Vegas, a game that gave us a new wasteland to explore while promising a better story. I got it day one and immediately hit all sorts of technical problems that prevented me from getting very far in it at all, and as such I abandoned it to play other games. I’ve heard such great things about it though and I’ve always felt I should go back. Evidently the game is stable and playable now so maybe its the right time.

Fable III

A lot of people give the Fable series flak. A lot of that flak comes from the fact that its creator, Peter Molyneux, over-promises on everything and often fails to deliver. Still, even though much of his promises in Fable II failed to come true, it was a blast to play and I kind of want to continue my journey in Albion. Out of all the games I’d like to go back and play, this one is probably the easiest to jump into because the Fable games are so simplistic in nature. One doesn’t have to get into a certain frame of mind to play them; it is mindless fantasy fun. Being as that is the case though, it might also be the one that gets skipped because it is candy gaming.

Pikmin 3

I’ve never played a Pikmin, I own a WiiU, and I have a copy of the game sitting next to my system. I kind of have no excuse not to play it, right?

The Witcher (and its sequel)

I’ve had both of these games sitting on my PC hard drive for quite some time and yet, like many games purchased in the midst of a Steam sale, I’ve yet to touch them. I’ve heard such great things and I do so love a rich fantasy story, that this seems like an essential play. With The Witcher 3 coming, I need to catch up in a big way.

So, I’ve shared mine, what are some of yours?
