Gravity kicked off awards schmoozing season last week and it didn’t just wow critics, but audiences as well. This week, Tom Hanks hopes to replicate his past successes with his based on a true story, Captain Phillips, while Robert Rodriguez brings us his star filled Machete sequel. All the while, I sit around and ask where the hell is Sin City 2?   ~Chris

Over the years, I’ve been quite open about my weird distaste for Tom Hanks. I can’t explain it, the guy (as an actor) just rubs me the wrong way. Even so, I am oddly drawn to his latest film, Captain Phillips. There is something wholly engaging about the based on a true story tale that details the events of the 2009 hijacking of the MV Maersk Alabama by Somali pirates. I may have to make some time to see it this weekend.

With this next admission people are going to start thinking I hate good things, but I did not particularly enjoy Robert Rodriguez’s Danny Trejo vehicle, Machete. As such I am not all that excited for the sequel Machete Kills. What does have my ears slightly turned up though is the insane cast Rodriguez put together for this film. Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen (using his given name, Carlos Estevez), Lady Gaga, Cuba Gooding Jr., Antionio Banderas, among others, make this something I feel I need to see, even if I don’t really want to.
