It is another lite week, with just two, big new releases hitting screens this week. One of those films looks interesting, the other… not so much. ~Chris

As a child of the 80s and a fan of the original cartoon series, I was baffled by the hybrid live-action/cartoon, film adaptation of the series a few years ago. I am even more baffled by the fact that there is a sequel to said film, Smurfs 2. It’s not so much that the films exist, but rather that they seemingly get the core Smurf concept so wrong and instead rely on gimmicks and star cameos to grab peoples attentions. What is wrong with just telling a cool smurf story, that maybe doesn’t take place in the “real” world?

Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg are two of the most charismatic actors starring in films today so placing them together in an action-comedy-thriller seems like a brilliant idea. While 2 Guns doesn’t necessarily seem like the usual action blockbuster, its different approach and strong casting might be enough to pull people in. I know I am excited for it. [/one_half_last]
