Welcome to the first Critically Sane monthly Power Rankings for 2016. As always the list is based on a mix of our opinions of what we’ve played this year as well as conjecture on what we think is going to be awesome in the months to come. The six of us each submit a list of 10 titles which are given a point total in reverse order (so 1st place gets 10 points, while 10th gets one), and then the totals are combined to come up with this monthly list. Being as it is January, it’s mostly conjecture on our part.
9t. Horizon: Zero Dawn (12 points) –
It’s a game where you play a bad-ass that hunts Dinobots. How isn’t this higher?
9t. The Legend of Zelda (12 points, 1 first place vote) –
This is going to be an interesting year for Nintendo and this open world Zelda game is one of the most interesting pieces, right behind the NX.
8. Doom (13 points, new) –
BFG’s, high speed shooter action, and snap-maps. Snap-maps? Sure… why not.
7. Gears of War 4 (16 points) –
Microsoft’s biggest release of the year is also one of Chris’s most anticipated titles of the year. Will it be more Judgment or will it be a return to form?
6. XCOM 2 (17 points) –
The reboot of XCOM captivated nearly everyone on staff (except Jeff, whom we should stone to death), this sequel looks to be that and more, which means a high-end strategy game may capture all of our attention making Tony very, very happy.
5. Ratchet & Clank (18 points) –
Insomniac’s dynamic duo is back for its first adventure on the PS4 (and the big screen too).
4. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (24 points) –
Almost all of us are excited to head back to Adam Jensen’s cyberpunk future.
3. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (27 points) –
Uncharted 3 burned a lot of us here at Critically Sane but even so, the Uncharted series holds a soft spot in our hearts and we can’t help but be excited to see where Nathan Drake’s next adventure takes him. Especially if it is his last.
2. Final Fantasy XV (30 points) –
Much like Uncharted 3, Final Fantasy XIII burned a lot of us here at Critically Sane, still, there is something exciting about a truly new Final Fantasy sequel and this has us pretty excited.
1. Mass Effect: Andromeda (32 points, 3 first place votes) –
We don’t know a lot about Mass Effect: Andromeda but we know it is one of our favorite series of the last gen and that’s enough to propel it to the top spot.
If you had to predict your top 10 list at the end of 2015, what would it look like? Let us know in the comments below.
