2014 has begun, and we decided to do something fun here at Critically Sane. Welcome to the power rankings, where we anticipate what our Game of the Year list is going to look like 12 months from now. This is a combination of anticipation and realistic expectations, and much like our Game of the Year article, a combined effort amongst the staff here.
With that said, we bring you the 2014 January Power Rankings.
10. Lightning Returns – Final Fantasy XIII (10 points, 1 first place position)
“The final chapter in one of the longest running, numbered Final Fantasy games, Lightning Returns will see Lightning actually return – which is a good thing.”
9. Tom Clancy’s The Division * (11 points)
“The Division is a recipe for awesome; the Tom Clancy universe in an open-world RPG game style, with drop-in/drop-out co-op.”
8. inFAMOUS: Second Son (13 points)
“Cole has been switched off- a new hero is left to carry the torch for Sony’s exclusive superhero franchise.”
7. Halo 5 (13 points)
“Master Chief wants his scantly clad, virtual girlfriend back, and he’ll go anywhere to do it.”
6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (18 points)
“The thinking-man’s RPG returns with a much bigger budget and more hype than ever before.”
5. South Park: The Stick of Truth (18 points)
“A South Park RPG with Matt Stone and Trey Parker heavily involved..ie. not written by amateurs.”
4. Watch Dogs (20 points)
“Open world action game set in Chicago? Oh, and it has hackery?”
3. Dark Souls II (24 points, 1 first place position)
“If I needed to explain this to you, I would have to kill you. Which is exactly what you’d want, if you were going to play Dark Souls II.”
2. Titanfall (33 points, 2 first place positions)
“Microsoft rolls out its highly-anticipated shooter; will this be the game that gives the Xbox One the leg up over the Playstation 4?”
1. Destiny (38 points, 1 first place position)
Last time Bungie brought a new property to market, it made the console shooter relevant. Can they do it again?”
